UT Dallas Monitors Coronavirus — No Cases Reported on Campus

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring an outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which was first identified in Wuhan, China. There are currently no known cases within the UT Dallas community.

For the sake of community safety, UT Dallas has suspended all university-related travel to China for students and employees until further notice. We understand this may directly impact your plans. If you have specific questions, please contact the International Risk and Safety Office at 972-883-4042.

Further, if you are planning to travel to China on non-university-related business, you are strongly encouraged to reconsider based on current recommendations from the U.S. State Department.

If you or someone you have been in close contact with has traveled to China within the last 30 days — especially to the city of Wuhan or to its province of Hubei — and is exhibiting fever, cough or difficulty breathing, we advise that you contact your local health provider or emergency room.

The health of our campus is very important. As with any communicable illness, we encourage students, faculty and staff to always take precautions to avoid becoming sick. These include:

  • If you’re feeling ill, staying home to avoid exposing others.
  • Avoiding close contact with sick people.
  • Limiting contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them, if you become sick.
  • Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throwing used tissues in the trash.
  • Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throwing used tissues in the trash.
  • Washing your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread this way.
